2025 Pre-University Program for International Students
Introduction
Pre-University Program of LEC, SJTU is a non-degree program designed for international students to enhance their language skills, academic performance, and cultural adaptability. The students can thus lay a solid foundation for their further undergraduate study. Pre-university students can get the priority of being accepted to the undergraduate program at SJTU upon passing the official assessment test.
Program A: This program is designed for students who have already achieved a good level of Chinese language proficiency (HSK 4≥180 or equivalent) but require remediation in academic subjects such as Chinese, English, and Mathematics. The duration is one year.
Program B: The program is tailored for international students who possess a foundational level of Chinese (HSK3≥180 or equivalent) but require further enhancement in Chinese, English, Mathematics, and other academic subjects. The program spans a duration of 1.5 years.
Program C:
This program targets international students with English proficiency (TOEFL≥80, IELTS≥5.5, or equivalent) to advance their English, Mathematics, and other academic skills. This program is conducted in English and lasts for one year.
The above three types of programs are designed with three orientations: Science, Engineering & Agriculture; Medicine; and Humanities & Social Sciences, based on the needs for further academic pursuit.
The above program is an extension program, not related to any credit or degree. It is an academic course that is taken by students voluntarily.
Eligibility
1. High school diploma and above.
2. Non-Chinese citizens who hold a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations set by the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC" and etc.
3. Students who are physically and mentally healthy
4. Students who are aged between 16 and 23 before registration
Curriculum
Program A:
Registration for Program A (1 year) starts in September 2025 (the specific time will be informed on the admission notice), with two semesters in one school year. Registration for Program A (0.5 year) starts in February 2026 (the specific time will be informed on the admission notice) and extends over a period of half a year with one semester. Students will join the ongoing cohort of Program A (1 year).
Note:
1. The curriculum is subject to changes according to requirements for further studies as well as students’ academic achievements.
2. The main teaching language is Chinese.
3. Students are required to take one or two electives out of six in each semester.
Program B
Registration for Program B (1.5 years) starts in February 2025 (the specific time will be informed on the admission notice), with three semesters in one and a half school years. The first semester will primarily consist of Chinese language courses, and students will be incorporated into Program A (1 year) starting from the second semester.

Program C:
Registration for Program C (1 year) starts in September 2025 (the specific time will be informed on the admission notice), with two semesters in one school year. Registration for Program C (0.5 year) starts in February 2026 (the specific time will be informed on the admission notice) and extends over a period of half a year with one semester. Students will join the ongoing cohort of Program C (1 year).

Features
The Pre-University Program enables students to improve their academic level and adapt to university life. Meanwhile, enriching cultural experience, on-site visits, academic subject contests as well as artistic and athletic activities are arranged to help enhance students’ capability and competitiveness. The program also provides professional progression counseling to guide the students to China's universities.

Application Materials
All application materials and information provided by applicants must be authentic, accurate and fully complete. Otherwise, the applicant will be disqualified for application, enrollment or study.
1. Senior high school diploma or equivalent (2024 graduating students should provide an official statement from your high school as proof of graduation);
2. School Profile (e.g. Overall Introduction, Admission Requirement, Enrollment Rate, Curriculum, Grading System, University Acceptance of Graduates and etc.);
3. Passport information page (valid for more than 6 months) and a bareheaded color photo of passport photo size;
4. Personal statement in Chinese or English with signature (with contents including but not limited to personal background, hobbies and expertise, reasons for applying the program and study plan);
5. One recommendation letter in Chinese or English (with signature and contact information, such as Email address and Tel, etc.);
6. Academic certificate(including but not limited to)
6.1 High school official transcripts, including all courses taken.
6.2 Test scores of the national high school graduation exam or college entrance exam in the country or region, such as SAT/ACT/IB/A-level/UEC, etc. If the above test results cannot be obtained at the time of application, an explanation must be provided.
7. Language certificate
7.1 Program A (1 year) applicants should provide HSK certificate (HSK 4 score ≥ 180) or equivalent certificate. Program A (0.5 year) applicants should provide HSK certificate (HSK 5 score ≥ 200, with Writing score ≥ 60) or equivalent certificate.
7.2 Program B (1.5 year) applicants should provide ①HSK certificate (HSK 3 score ≥ 180) or equivalent certificate, ②TOELF score report (total score ≥ 70), IELTS score report (total score ≥ 5) or equivalent certificate.
7.3 Program C (1 year) applicants should provide one of the following: TOEFL score report (total score ≥ 80), IELTS score report (total score ≥ 5.5) , proof of English native speaker, Certificate of at least 2 years of full-time academic study taught in English. Program C (0.5 year) applicants should provide one of the following: TOEFL score report (total score ≥ 90), IELTS score report (total score ≥ 6) , proof of English native speaker, Certificate of at least 2 years of full-time academic study taught in English.
8. Birth Certificate;
9. The nationality or household registration certificate of both the applicant's parents (Passport or ID card);
10. Applicant whose one or both parents are Chinese citizens should provide the following materials:
10.1 Certificate of the applicant obtained foreign nationality at birth or afterward.
10.2 For applicants who obtained foreign nationality at birth, ① if one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens and has a permanent residence abroad, a certificate of the corresponding permanent residence needs to be provided; ②if one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens but has not obtained permanent residence abroad, certificate of the renunciation of the Chinese nationality of the applicant needs to be provided.
10.3 For applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and obtained foreign nationalities afterward, a certificate for the cancellation of their original registered residence in China and the renunciation of the Chinese nationality should be provided.
10.4 The entry and exit seal page of visiting China on the applicant's passport from April 30, 2021 to the time of application.
11. Applicants under 18 years old (until September 1, 2025) should provide a letter of guarantee offered by the guardian in China (a notarized document approved by SJTU is required);
12. Award certificates (if any);
13. Other supportive materials required by SJTU.
Note:
①If any of the above application materials are not in Chinese or English, a notarized translation in Chinese or English shall be provided.
②There is no need to mail hard copies of supporting materials during application.

CNY 800 (approx. USD 120, pay online)
Note: Whether the applicant is admitted or not, his or her application fee will not be returned.
Application Procedures
1.Visit https://elearning.sjtu.edu.cn/register, register your account by following the instructions, and then enter the online application system;
2.Complete the application form as required, upload the electronic application materials.
3.Pay the application fee of CNY 800 and click to submit the application.
Interview
The admission decision is based on a comprehensive evaluation of all the application materials as well as integrative test (by case basis). Notifications of interview (if applicable) arrangements will be sent via email.
Admission
1. The admission decision will be made based on a comprehensive evaluation. Applicants may check their admission results in the application system https://elearning.sjtu.edu.cn/register.
2. Applicants need to pay the tuition fees in the application system to confirm the enrollment within two weeks after admission results are released.
3. The "Admission Notice" for the Spring intake programs will be issued in batches from the end of January, and those for the Fall intake programs will be issued in batches from the end of July.
4. Paper versions of the “Admission Notice” are not provided. Students can log in to the application system to download the electronic version and print it out for visa application purposes.

The Fall intake programs: August 31st (Students applying for Scholarship should submit their applications before July 15th )
The Spring intake programs: January 15th (Students applying for Scholarship should submit their applications before January 1st )

Note: The above fees include tuition and undergraduate application guidance fees, excluding textbook fees, insurance fees, accommodation fees and other expenses.
Scholarship
Outstanding students are eligible to apply for the freshman scholarship, with a maximum award of RMB 10,000 (only applicable to programs with a duration of 1 or 1.5 years). Enrolled outstanding students can receive a scholarship for excellent students each semester, specifically in accordance with the scholarship policy.
Students applying for freshman scholarship should click the option “Apply for scholarship” when completing the online application form. Candidates selected to pass the preliminary review for the scholarship will be invited to an interview.

Specific time will be informed on the admission notice.
Accommodation and management
The accommodation will be arranged by SJTU on Qibao campus. The specific dormitories are allocated by the school.
Dormitory Fee: 700 yuan per month (quad room, utilities included)
Miscellaneous
The minimum size of Program A/B/C is 10 students. If the number cannot be reached, the class will be cancelled and the fees will be refunded.
